"I was the happiest depressed person in North America," he stated in a Nov. 16 interview. "I was depressed while on the show. I was always responsible for being full of delight and wonder, but I couldn't."

When his father died of cancer in 2015, the actor's life changed drastically.

"Watching him die of cancer changed me," Steve said. "It made me consider heritage and the worth of our legacy. I have to rethink and prioritize my mental health."

Now he's returning with Blue's Clues: Big City Adventure, available Nov. 18 on Paramount+. "I love being Steve more than ever," he remarked. "I use a trenchcoat. A clown figure like Grover meets Columbo. This is freeing."
