Keanu Reeves Leaves Hulu's 'Devil in the White City' (EXCLUSIVE)

Keanu Reeves will no longer star in "The Devil in the White City" on Hulu, sources tell Variety.

Hulu first developed the show in 2019 and ordered it to series in August 2022. Based on Erik Larson's book.

The show tells the true story of Daniel H. Burnham, a visionary builder who rushes to leave his mark with the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.

Dr. H. H. Holmes, America's first contemporary serial killer and builder of the Fair's "Murder Castle."

Reeves was cast as Burnham, which would have been his first significant American TV role. At this point, no one has played Holmes.

Hulu didn't comment. Variety's request for response from Reeves went unanswered.

Executive producers include Martin Scorsese, Rick Yorn, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson of Appian Way, Stacey Sher, Sam Shaw, and Mark Lafferty.

Sam Shaw is adapting the book and serving as showrunner and executive producer with Lila Byock. Paramount Television Studios and ABC Signature produce.

This is the book's latest chapter. DiCaprio bought the picture rights in 2010 and expects to star as Holmes. Billy Ray wrote the script for Scorsese's 2015 film.

Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner developed it for Paramount through their Cruise/Wagner company, but the option expired in 2004. Paramount reacquired the film rights in 2007 and teamed with Shamberg and Sher.
