Len Goodman ends his career as a 'DWTS' judge after 17 years.

"Dancing With the Stars," member Len Goodman is retiring after 31 seasons. On Monday's broadcast, the longstanding dancing competition show judge announced his Season 32 departure.

The 78-year-old stated, "While we all are getting enthusiastic and looking forward so much to the finals next week, it would also be with a touch of melancholy, and this would be my final season judging on 'Dancing with the Stars.'"

"I've been with the program since it started in 2005, and it's been a big joy to be a member of such a fantastic show, but I've chosen I love to spend more time with my kids and family."

He said, "I cannot thank the 'Dancing with the Stars' family enough; it has been such a beautiful experience for me, and I'm looking forward to next week's finale, which I'm sure will be simply phenomenal."

After the emotional declaration, the ballroom expert—known for his harsh criticism—received a standing ovation and internet acclaim.

"He is a dance icon, even if we disagree with him. He, Carrie Ann, and Bruno helped shape the show. Mr. Len Goodman has left an incredible legacy on this show. "I hope he enjoys his retirement," a Twitter user said next to a gif of the judge dressed in a crown.

He judged 20 seasons before taking a hiatus for 21 and 29. However, he has played a significant role in each season in between.

The former professional dancer, who resides in Kent, England, told People that performing on the show has become "more difficult" as he ages.

"I haven't fallen asleep or begun dribbling yet on the show," he laughed.

He stated, "I will miss the California warmth, working with my colleague's judges, and the friendship with everyone on the show. "I'll miss seeing celebrities become dancers and being part of one of TV's most successful shows."
