Prime Minister Rishi Sunak revealed Sunday that the holiday will be on May 8, 2023, closing a three-day weekend that begins with the future monarch's coronation at London's Westminster Abbey on May 6.

"A new monarch's coronation is a special occasion for our country," he remarked. "In honor of this momentous event, I'm announcing an extra bank holiday for the UK next year."

"I look forward to seeing people join together to commemorate and pay tribute to King Charles III," said Sunak, 42, who was selected last month to replace former PM Liz Truss.

Sunak became Britain's first Asian premier in October.

Buckingham Palace announced King Charles' coronation date last month after The Mail on Sunday reported a scaled-back event with 2,000 attendees.
