Shaiman said the show made many changes to the screenplay to deepen the characters. He said they're still tweaking the show, but he's sleeping.

Like the film, the musical follows jazz-age musicians during Prohibition, but with black actors and a gender update.

The show also handles the movie's last line, "nobody's perfect," "very well," Shaiman teases.

Shaiman, who recently scored "Bros," performed the title song at the star-studded party. "Some Like It Hot" opens on Dec. 11.
